Baptism Challenge - Day 20

Welcome to Day 20 of the Baptism Challenge!

Here's the scripture in today's video: 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. (English Standard Version)

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.  (New International Version)

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (King James Version)

Here's a video to help with memorizing the Apostles Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
      creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
     He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
     was crucified, died, and was buried;
     he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
     He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
     the holy catholic church,
     the communion of saints,
     the forgiveness of sins,
     the resurrection of the body,
     and the life everlasting. Amen.

When we say, “I believe in the resurrection of the body” we are confessing our belief that the body of Christ (the church) will one day rise to meet Christ face to face. Read 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

Do I have to believe in the afterlife to be baptized?

Just like we’ve discussed the last couple of days, our Christian journey is not meant to be individualistic. We will all be changed together. Our hope is not simply that we will leave the heartache and struggles of this world behind when we make it to heaven. Our hope is one day enjoying completely unfettered communion with Jesus. Certainly that communion involves the other parts of His body (Other Christians).

In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul compares our current body to a seed and our resurrected life to a tree. The seed and tree are totally connected to one another, but about as different as you can imagine. If you didn’t know that an acorn turns into an oak tree, you would be pretty shocked to plant an acorn and come back to check on it in a few years. When it comes to what happens after death or at the end of what we know on this earth, we don’t know exactly what everything will look like, but we know it will be drastically different than what we know now.

Today's Baptism Challenge: Wrap up memorization of the Apostle’s Creed. Invite your family to memorize it too.
